Savannah Toile in a Paint by # Kitchen

Savannah Toile Tea Towel & Apron

I am crazy about this image of shopSCAD staffer Whitney Dail!  After visiting with friend and SCAD artist Denise Carson at her awesome studio, I could not stop dreaming about the tiny paint by number kitchen enclosed therein.  Denise had been collecting vintage paint by number paintings for years and one day decided to hang them in bulk in her studio kitchen.    (If you are familiar with her work you'll know paint by number paintings pop up in her mixed media paintings often.)  So, when we were looking for shoot locations for the catalog I just had to ask her permission to use this space- and thankfully she obliged!
(Thanks Denise!)

Inspired by war time poster of
Rosie the Riveter, We Can Do It- I tied one of the Savannah Toile Tea Towels on Whitney's head as a scarf.  I love that the traditional Savannah toile came off looking edgy thanks to this, a Scott Blake temporary tattoo and a BAZZdeGRANT necklace.  The Tea Towels are the best seller for us, only $10 for set of two!

The Savannah Toile was designed by Morena Guzman (M.F.A., fibers and industrial design, SCAD). A fresh, modern take on a familiar classic features scenes from the Spanish Moss-draped squares of historic Savannah, Georgia. SCAD's Working Class Studio has made this into aprons, oven mitts, tea towels, and pillows. Available in a neatly packaged gift set or as separates, all Savannah Toile items are made with resilient, machine-washable cotton twill.
You can choose from four colorways: mustard, gecko, burnt scarlet and teal.

At shopSCAD we love mixing and matching all kinds of crazy patterns.  The image above has more than a few collections of Working Class Studio melamine, Steph Calvert Sweet Plates, Scott Blake Bar Code Art Coffee Mug, and Oh Boy Cat Toy Spatula (not really ideal for kitchen use!) and funny potholders.  The wood spatulas and cutting boards are by Martha Enzmann and Tom Sternal and are only available at this time in the shops. Please call us if you are interested. 912.525.5180. They are a super buy and flying out of the shop at $12-14 for spatulas and $12-20 for cutting boards.
Savannah Toile Pillows, $50

SCAD artists Rachel Evans and Michael Porten totally rock as models/muses!  They were great to work with and made such a kooky but romantic Savannah porch scene for the catalog.  The Savannah Toile Pillows are included with President Paula Wallace's newest book, Perfect Porches.  Rachel is wearing a Rubi McGrory's apron, Katie Runnels vintage trophy brooch, and Cuyler Hovey-King jewelry.

Destined for stardom, Denise's dog, Ari is about the cutest thing ever.
Poor thing I really should have filled these bowls with treats for him!
